COLONIE — The South Colonie girls’ volleyball teams turned the gym pink on Tuesday, Oct. 22, and then the varsity team beat its cross-town rival Shaker in four sets, 3-1.
Pink Out the Gym night was held as a fundraiser to support breast cancer awareness and all six teams — freshmen, JV and varsity — wore pink jerseys and there were raffles to raise money for the cause.
Shaker varsity won the first set, 25-16, but Colonie came back to win three straight — 25-14, 25-18 and 25-25 — to win the match and town bragging rights.
Colonie will host Guilderland on Thursday, Oct. 24, and round out the regular season on Monday, Oct. 28 by hosting Niskayuna. Shaker will host Troy on Thursday, play at Bethlehem on Friday and finish up by hosting Burnt Hills on Monday, Oct. 28.
