GUILDERLAND — Coming off a Section II, Class AA championship last year, the Bison came out strong on Friday, Sept. 7 by beating the Dutchmen 41-23 in the Suburban Council opener for each team.

Shaker took a 13-point lead after the first quarter on a run by Austin Baird and a 40-yard punt return by Porter Ninstant, his first of three scores.

Julius Negel got the Dutch on the board with a field goal to start the second quarter, but Jake Notarino answered for Shaker with a one-yard touchdown run. Vin Lia scored from three yards out for Guilderland to cut the Shaker lead to 20-10 at the half.

In the third, Shaker scored two unanswered touchdowns — a three-yard run by Jake Nelson and an eight-yard run by Ninstant.

But, Guilderland wasn’t done yet as Chris Aridito hit Logan Broomhall for a 43-yard touchdown to make the score 34-17 after three.

Lia scored on a one-yard run to bring Guilderland within 10 with just more than six minutes remaining in the game, but Ninsant scored his third of the game on a nine-yard scamper with about 1:40 left.

Shaker will play at Shen and Guilderland travel to Niskayuna on Friday, Sept. 13.
