SPOTTED: Shaker bests Bethlehem in round one of Class A lax sectionals

COLONIE – Shaker bested Bethlehem in the first round of the Class A sectionals by a score of 12-6.

The No. 3 seed Blue Bison jumped out to an 4-1 lead after one and then took a 7-2 lead into the half at a rain-soaked Siena College.

Five Bison scored two goals: Jack Cheney, Amos Grimm, Luke Julien, Andrew O’Connor and Zane Radz, while Will Pepe and Ian Shelmerdine chipped in a goal each. Julien also had four assists.

Sam Nelson had nine saves for the Bison.

Liam Ferris had 2 goals for the Eagles while P.J. Namkoong had a goal and two assists. Three other Eagles, the No. 6 seed, had a goal each: Dylan Carlton, Ben Reilly and Adam Sanchez.

Matt Steneo recorded seven saves in goal for Bethlehem.

Shaker will now play Shen, the No. 2 seed. Time and place have not yet been announced.
