GUILDERLAND – On paper, Bethlehem beating Shenendehowa 49-45 in the semifinals of the Section II Class AA tournament is, to date, the upset of the 2018 post season.
But Bethlehem, the No. 4 seed, is on a 14-game winning streak. After starting the season 2-5, it finished with a 14-5 overall record and went 10-4 in the Suburban Council.
And Shen is the No. 1 seed for a reason. The squad finished with a 19-3 record overall and went 15-1 in the Suburban Council – the only league loss came at the hands of Saratoga in early December.
Safe to say both teams came to Guilderland High School on Monday, Feb. 26, playing well. Bethlehem just outplayed Shen – on both ends of the court.
Just four players scored for Bethlehem: Molly Kirby had 17, Julianna Okoniewski had 12 and Maggie Kirby and Tessa Hughes had 10 each.
Alexandra Tudor had 17 to lead Shen while Cameron Tooley had 10 and Kaitlyn Watrobski had five.
Bethlehem will play No. 2 seed Colonie on Saturday, March 3, at Hudson Valley Community College for the Section II title. Opening tip is set for 2:30 p.m.
