CAPITAL DISTRICT — Defending state champion Niskayuna eased past Shaker 11-3 in a Suburban Council boys lacrosse game Thursday, March 31, in Latham.
The Silver Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and built an 8-2 halftime advantage on their way to winning their season opener.
James Sexton scored four goals and added two assists, while Aidan Byrne contributed a hat trick for Niskayuna. Goaltender Jack Lynch needed to make only four saves to pick up his first victory.
Luke Julien tallied twice, and goaltender Andrew Leahey stopped 16 shots for Shaker (0-1).
Bethlehem 17, LaSalle 4
Bethlehem scored six times in the first quarter on its way to a 17-4 non-league victory over LaSalle at The College of Saint Rose’s Plumeri Sports Complex.
Five Eagles had multi-goal games. Ryan Starr, Jake Szelest and Devon Holiday all recorded hat tricks, while Zach Nunez and Ethan Sheraw each added a pair of goals. Holiday also chipped in with three assists.
Four players scored goals for LaSalle, and goaltender Zach Hurst stopped 10 shots.
Cambridge 9, Voorheesville 1
In Voorheesville, Cambridge built a 5-0 halftime lead on its way to a 9-1 victory over Voorheesville.
Justin Blanchfield scored three goals, and Matthew Hofer contributed two goals and three assists for Cambridge. Ian Owens tallied for Voorheesville (0-2), and goaltender Evan O’Connor made eight saves.
