TROY — Hudson fended off a late rally by Voorheesville to pull out a 65-60 victory in the Section 2 Class B boys basketball playoffs Friday, Feb. 19, at Hudson Valley Community College.
The fourth-seeded Blue Hawks scored the first eight points of the third quarter on their way to building a 42-32 lead. No. 5 Voorheesville trimmed the deficit to 45-43 early in the fourth quarter before Tyler Dellavecchia drained back-to-back three-pointers to give Hudson a 51-43 advantage.
Voorheesville fell behind 60-50 in the final two minutes before making one more comeback bid. The Blackbirds trimmed Hudson’s lead to three points with 18.6 seconds left, but free throws by Mike Alert and Kimedrich Murphy sealed the Blue Hawks’ victory.
Dellavecchia netted 18 points, Alert contributed 12 points and Murphy added 11 points for Hudson, which advances to the Sectional semifinals against top-seeded Mekeel Christian. Scott Glasheen paced Voorheesville with 21 points, and Sean Nolan chipped in with 13 points.
