The Christian Brothers Academy athletic community is mourning the loss of one of its recent graduates.
Torey Williams – a football, lacrosse and track star – was killed in a motorcycle accident Saturday morning in Savannah, Ga. According to police reports, the 18-year-old lost control of his motorcycle and hit a tree.
Football coach Joe Burke remembered Williams as a “fierce competitor” and a quiet leader.
“He had a great heart,” said Burke. “He was the heart and soul of our football team in his senior season.”
Williams was a two-way player for the CBA football team. He started as a wide receiver on offense and led the Brothers defensive unit in tackles in 2011.
“We could not keep him off the field,” said Burke.
As a lacrosse player, Williams started all four years he was part of the varsity team. He added track and field to his resume in his senior season and excelled in the high jump, where he holds the school record.
“He was superb in everything he did,” said Burke.
All the while, Burke said Williams inspired his teammates to work hard.
“He led by example with his work ethic – the way he practiced, and the way he played,” said Burke.
Burke said everyone’s thoughts at CBA are with Williams’ family.
“The CBA family, our arms are spread wide open for his family,” said Burke. “We’ll do whatever we can to help them through this grieving time.”
