The Albany Dutchmen kept their playoff hopes alive with Monday’s 3-2 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League win over first-place Amsterdam at Bob Bellizzi Field.
Latham resident Will Remillard’s three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the third inning gave Albany (19-20) a 3-0 lead. Amsterdam (30-10) rallied for two runs in the top of the fifth inning off starting pitcher David Stagg, but four relievers combined to shut down the Mohawks over the final four frames.
Stagg collected his fifth win of the season, but he had to work out of several jams to do it. He allowed eight hits and walked three batters in his five innings of work, but he also struck out eight Mohawks.
Cody White, Jake Woodward, Ricky Schafer and Trevor Lacosse each worked an inning of scoreless ball for Albany. Lacosse, another Latham resident, picked up his team-best seventh save with a perfect ninth inning that included two strikeouts.
Dan Zlotnick took the loss for Amsterdam after allowing three runs on three hits in four innings. Dennis Buckley pitched the fifth, sixth and seventh innings for the Mohawks, and Colonie Central High School graduate Chris Kalica worked the eighth inning.
The win kept Albany within one game of fifth-place Oneonta (21-20) and two games of fourth-place Newark (22-19) in the PGCBL standings. The top four teams make the playoffs.
The entire PGCBL is off Tuesday for the league’s All-Star Game at Amsterdam’s Shuttleworth Park.
