To the Editor:
These days, it feels like we’re all walking a tightrope, balancing feelings of isolation and being overwhelmed by a variety of emotions regarding the state of our nation and the world. The world feels heavy, but I try to remind myself and others that a simple act of kindness can change someone’s day.
This past Valentine’s Day, for the third year in a row, I had the privilege of delivering over 400 handmade cards, created by Kindergarten students along with their classroom buddies from Glenmont Elementary, to residents in local assisted living facilities, community residences, and senior programs all around town.
The smiles these handemade cards brought to our neighbors’ faces were priceless, reminding me how small gestures can make a big difference.
A heartfelt thanks to the students and teachers for making this Valentine’s Day truly special for so many neighbors, some of whom may not have received a Valentine’s Day card otherwise. They now know that someone cares about them and their happiness.
Let’s all continue to share kindness and build connections in our community—building bridges and sharing the joy of community. The next time you’re out and about, give someone a smile. It may be the moment that changes their day entirely.
