Editor, The Spotlight;
A mental illness is a label, but it’s a mask to wear. When others assume or judge, more layers are added to that mask. And only then does self esteem shrivel up and gets boxed up with more labels to file.
A mental illness is — or could be known as — a defect, but only has society brought words with what they believe has a meaning to what they see as wrong. It only makes the mask permanent to a life.
Society defines a mental illness, but has no one brought to the attention that society may be wrong — that maybe being mental only makes us human. So society can label one, but in my reality if one is labeled, we all are. Society is one reason for labels, but also because the amount of humans who walk around wearing a mask fear a life to be free of words given to them.
As a member of society and one who is going through this, let’s take a stand and help others who feel different become the person they want to be. I stand for those who feel different.
To only let you know different is good, and labels only a mask …
