Editor, The Spotlight;
On Nov. 4, Justin Corcoran, one of the most qualified attorneys in the area will be on the ballot for Supreme Court. I certainly will be placing my vote for him, and I hope you will as well. I know that there have been many conversations in the press and otherwise about the lack of women on the bench. Admittedly, there is an issue here. However, in the long run we have to put the most qualified candidates on the bench.
I have been a practicing attorney now for over 32 years and I have spent all that time in in the litigation field. I was one of the first female litigation attorneys in the area. I am nothing if not a supporter of women in every area of the law. Justin has been practicing against me for many, many years and we have done dozens of cases against one another. I have seen his work, his demeanor, his aptitude and his experience. He is ethical, smart, analytical and understanding. Justin’s accomplishments include being recognized by Best Lawyers of America and Super Lawyers. Most importantly, as a judicial candidate, Justin was given the highest rating – “Highly Qualified” – by the Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission, an independent, nonpartisan screening panel. There is no other judicial candidate on the ballot who has been so recognized. I know Justin Corcoran’s legal competence and his ethical standards, and we need him on the bench. Justin’s experience, temperament and abilities will be assets to this community. Certainly what we need is a candidate with the experience and attributes Justin has. We certainly need this more than we need to arbitrarily elect someone because they are a woman. Please elect Justin Corcoran as a Supreme Court Judge on election day.
