Editor, The Spotlight:
This is my response to Move on Organization asking me to join last Sunday’s local oil train movement protest to The Port of Albany.
I believe your protest is wrong — shipping by rail makes much more sense than clogging the highways with dangerous stuff. I worked at the Conrail freight yard as a clerk for over 20 years, and there was — to my knowledge — never a rupture, spill or problem with the many unit oil trains that passed through there. Please get a new project. I do not want to take part in stopping the health of the Port of Albany or of the railroads. They are both an important part of keeping our area economically viable. Wind and solar power is not very reliable in the tree filled Northeast, with it’s cloudiness and ever changing weather. Think about it, please.
