Editor, The Spotlight;
Christine Beck should be elected to the Bethlehem Central School District Board of Education (BOE). As a parent of three children in the District and a taxpayer with legitimate concerns about the impact of escalating education costs on the Town’s residents, Christine will bring a fresh perspective to the BOE.
Christine is running to assist the Bethlehem Central School District with the challenging choices it faces in coming years as it strives to implement new academic standards amidst continuing budgetary constraints. Ensuring that the district fulfills its mission of educating its children within its means is a challenge which requires precisely the skill set Christine will bring to the position. With 25 years of business experience, including project management, budget analysis, process improvement, quality assurance and internal audit, Christine would be an asset to the Bethlehem Central School District.
For the last 11 years, Christine has donated countless hours to school endeavors, as an officer on the PTA, chair of multiple fundraising events, and supporter of music and athletic programs. Her strong record of community service and demonstrated ability to work with people will facilitate effective collaboration with all stakeholders.
Most importantly, Christine believes that the District’s decisions should be transparent to the community including: (1) ensuring that the community is informed of potential challenges facing the district; (2) communicating the district’s decisions to the public as early as possible; and (3) advising impacted groups what the issues are and potential resolutions. Christine will continue to promote informed community input into the district’s planning and budget processes.
For all of these reasons, I intend to vote for Christine on May 20.
