Editor, The Spotlight;
We wanted to invite you to two community events happening on Saturday, April 26 (rain or shine!).
Go Green Day 2014 and a Recycling Extravaganza, will be held 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Farnsworth Middle School in Guilderland.
A free pharmaceutical collection will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Elm Avenue Park n Bethlehem. The event is part of the DEA’s National Take-Back Initiative, hosted by the Bethlehem Police and Sanitation Departments. Accepted items include prescription and over-the-counter medications in solid and liquid form.
Intravenous solutions, injectables and needles will not be accepted.
Go Green Day 2014 is an opportunity to get information on recycling, gardening, energy conservation, sustainability and more. We will host mini seminars on the half hour, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Find out about gardening in unusual containers; get information on Community Sponsored Agriculture (CSA’s); increase your knowledge of food origins in a fun and unique way; “bee” educated on the troubling decline in the bee population; learn how to compost and the benefits of worms; hear important information on radon — what it is, how it can affect you, and how to get rid of it; or pick up tips on how to green up your home. There will be more than 50 exhibitors and special activities for the kids, baby chicks to cuddle, and food vendors there as well. The Go Green Day 2014 event tent will be located in the front parking lot of the school.
Take advantage of the semi-annual Recycling Extravaganza sponsored by the Guilderland Central School District’s Green Task Force. Local businesses and non-profits will be on hand to collect metal, plastics, bottles and cans, rags, bicycles, toiletry items, usable clothing, dishware, linens and household items, books, grocery and other plastic bags, and health and beauty containers and bottles. The Recycling Extravaganza is a drive-through venue and will be located in the parking lot behind the school.
The Middle School Garage Sale will be in full-swing inside the school cafeteria. The proceeds benefit the school’s Butterfly House.
Go Green Day 2014 is a cooperative effort of The Capital Region Recycling Partnership, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Albany County, the Albany County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Guilderland Central School District.
