Editor, The Spotlight:
While driving home from Albany the other evening, I was warmed by the welcoming holiday decorations that graced the shops and private practices along Delaware Ave., from the Normanskill Bridge to the Four Corners, all five of them! Did the Chamber of Commerce urge their members not to recognize the season? I doubt it. Was there a combined effort by all to ignore the holiday lest someone be offended by a wreath or string of colored lights? (The Grinch himself would be hard-pressed to find any decor to steal in Delmar, and the Holy Family would possibly pass by this Bethlehem for a more welcoming community.) Why even the Star of Bethlehem is missing from the fire-training tower off the Delmar Bypass. Perhaps the bogus excuse is that Thanksgiving was later than usual, or that due to a slow economy, such frivolity was not budgeted. If the local merchants and practices want us to shop here, perhaps they could present a more joyous and festive atmosphere. Thank goodness the Town Hall is decked out, and The Four Corners glows with the spirit of the season. And too, the private dwellings in town reflect the joy of this happy time of year. Well maybe next year will be merry and bright.
