Editor, The Spotlight:
I am an Independence Party member and an Independence Party committee person. When I go to the polls I vote for the candidate running for election based on their qualifications. That includes not only their technical skills, but also their leadership abilities, and their involvement and commitment to their community. On Nov. 5 my vote for highway superintendent is going to be for Brent Meredith.
His more than 2-to-1 win in the Democratic primary is testament to the community recognizing his qualifications. He is a highly educated professional engineer, graduating from Clarkson University and continuing with graduate work at Virginia Tech. Mr. Meredith managed multi-million dollar projects as a civil and environmental engineer for the Federal government and as a U.S. Army Engineer Officer. He is committed to service: five years as a Delmar firefighter; as an Army National Guard Engineer Officer; and, with four children in Bethlehem schools, participating in multiple (probably an understatement) school and sports activities.
In short, he brings the knowledge, skills, and abilities that we in Bethlehem should always want in our elected officials. Bethlehem voters chose to have the highway superintendent be an elected position. Now we need to choose the right person to fill this position. Brent Meredith is that person.
