Editor, The Spotlight:
I write to enthusiastically encourage my fellow Bethlehem residents to vote for Brent Meredith to be our next highway superintendent. As a taxpayer and one who has also been active in our community, I believe Brent is best suited to oversee and modernize our Highway Department. Town voters earlier this year voiced their preference for keeping the highway superintendent job an independently elected and professionally run position. As superintendent, I am confident Brent would work well with the supervisor’s office, while remaining independently accountable to the voters/taxpayers.
Brent has an engineering degree from Clarkson University and completed masters level coursework at Virginia Tech. He has served as an engineer for the Navy where he was responsible for the management of site improvements on a $140 million Navy construction project, which included new roads, new storm and sanitary sewers. He has also served as an Army officer in the Maryland Army National Guard. He has experience in budgeting and leadership of personnel – both of which are critical to the success of our town’s Highway Department. If elected, Brent will continue to run the office professionally as Gregg Sagendorph has done for over two decades, while bringing fresh perspective and new ideas to the position.
Brent and his family have been very active in the Bethlehem community and have seen how our town has grown from a small community to a more populous area with expanded infrastructure needs. His vision statement (at www.votebrentmeredith.com/vision-and-goals.html) sets forth in detail how Brent plans to improve road safety for pedestrians and improve the aesthetics of our community. He also plans to maximize technology and partner with other municipalities and governments to help the town move forward while keeping our taxes from increasing. Please join me in electing Brent Meredith our next highway superintendent on Nov. 5.
