Editor, The Spotlight:
If the Town of Bethlehem Highway Superintendent position is allowed to be changed from an elected to an appointed position you will be giving up your right to vote to fill that job. This type of change from an elected to an appointed position is food for bureaucracy growth. It makes it much more difficult for people to correct a problem. If for example, the appointed Highway Superintendent approved and supported by the Supervisor and Board happens to generate complaints and problems, the adversely effected public can very likely only make a change in the Highway Superintendent position by the more difficult procedure of voting for change of the bureaucracy that appoints him. Don’t lose your right to vote.
