On March 12 we will be asked to vote to increase our school taxes to pay for artificial turf at the high school. Our family is a strong supporter of our school district, and we are committed to pay the necessary taxes to support it. The problem is that this synthetic turf is not necessary and neither is the tax increase that goes along with it. The fact is that the turf we are being asked to pay for costs about $4 million and is a health hazard to those who use it. This is why numerous schools and sports fields around the country are returning to natural turf. Also, the school board has not even calculated the added costs of ongoing maintenance and the eventual disposal of it. This is a clear “NO” vote issue.
