Letter: Bethlehem’s ambulance advisory board appears to be for insiders only

Editor, The Spotlight:

Hi! I am responding to an article written in the Spotlight, dated February 1, 2012, entitled “Bethlehem Well Served by Ambulance” on Page 7. Wow! Spot on! Well done!

I applied for the volunteer position on the Ambulance advisory board for the Town of Bethlehem. My goal was to bring my years of experience in the emergency medicine field and management to the board. I did not make the cut and was not chosen.

I have been an active member of the Ravena Fire Department and Rescue Squad for 40 years, running on over 4,000 calls in the squad. For 35 years I was a New York State certified, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) instructor, teaching more than 1,000 students. For the New York State Thruway, I was the coordinator of the emergency management team. And, yes, I do now live in the Town of Bethlehem.

So it appears, it does not matter how much experience you have or if the position is paid or volunteer, if you do not have any political juice, forget it. Don’t waste your time trying to help.
