Editor, The Spotlight,
Last year, there were several articles and letters in the Spotlight and other area newspapers regarding efforts by Glenville residents to protect the “Indian Kill Field and Sledding Hill” from development. This is land that sits behind the Glendale Nursing Home and is adjacent to the Indian Kill Nature Preserve. I was flabbergasted to recently learn that it is the County Democrats who have ignored efforts to preserve this property, especially because they regularly bill themselves as the “green” party. Last month, I spoke at a Legislature meeting in support of preserving this land so that county residents may continue to use it for recreational purposes and enjoy its beauty, as they have for over half a century. At that meeting, I was most impressed by candidate Kurt Semon, who is running for a seat on the Schenectady County Legislature. He spoke very eloquently and passionately in favor of protecting the property as “parkland.” It was obvious o me that if elected, Mr. Semon will listen to his constituents and actively work to ensure that the needs of the community are met. I wish him well in the upcoming election.
