Editor, The Spotlight:
Over the last decade, I have attended countless Town Board meetings. In the last four years, I have seen the Board go from unanimously voting for all of the items on the agenda, with the only discussion being patting everyone on the back, to unanimously obstructing a large number of items on the agenda in what certainly looked like political bickering. Neither is acceptable.
It is never good to have the same political philosophy controlling all the votes. Disagreements and discussions with different viewpoints are very healthy in our representative government. It is part of our checks and balances, as well as a way to consider the desires of our diverse population. This is why we need to change the makeup of the Town Board. It is time to put at least one Republican / Conservative on the Town Board and Jeremy Near is that person.
Jeremy is not a politician with ambitions of using this as a stepping stone to better positions, he is employed in private industry as an Engineer and Project Leader. He has experience to work with all political and personal backgrounds, he can see that needed projects are timely and accomplished with fiscal responsibility. He believes in open government that will use common sense solutions to keep the Town safe and affordable and a great place to live and work. I urge everyone to take a look at Jeremy Near for Town Board. You have two votes for board members, one vote cast for Jeremy Near will be a vote well spent for better government, no matter what political party you belong to.
