We take the task of being a community resource pretty seriously at The Spotlight.
That’s easy to say and would probably fit quite nicely on a promotion spot, but to us, making good on that statement is a big deal.
Every week, we turn our eye to the news happening in the communities we cover, and the issues that affect residents there. We don’t run wire reports from across the globe or pictures of celebrity baby bumps. Local news is what we do, every day and every week.
That includes running announcements throughout every edition wherever we’re able to find the space. The point is, we do everything we possibly can to ensure our readers are not only up to date on the most important news in their localities, but the stories, events and various goings on that might not seem like a big deal to most, but are of great importance to some.
We don’t charge for these announcements, but rather take the time and effort to compile them — as well as the cost to print them — as a service we think is of importance to our readers and their communities.
We can’t be successful in this mission alone, however. That’s why we are always grateful when we receive news and announcements from the communities we serve, whether it’s a date for a workshop or a pancake breakfast, or an acknowledgement of a young college graduate.
If it’s important to you, then it’s probably news to us.
We have a symbiotic relationship with our readers, and not just when it comes to the bottom line. We do everything possible to keep abreast of what’s going on around town, but our readers help us excel in that goal by pointing out what we might have overlooked, be it a major scandal or a do-gooder who’s just too modest to be acknowledged on his or her own.
That’s why we’d like to remind everyone your news tips, as well as announcements of events, accomplishments or any other matter of public interest, are welcome at [email protected].
The only unfortunate part about this arrangement is we can never run all of the announcements we receive; there’s simply not enough room in our papers to contain every single piece of news that’s happening around town.
That’s where we’d advise our readers to turn to our online event calendar, at spotlightnews.com/events, where you’ll be able to advertise your event alongside other local happenings and announcements, for free.
