Dear Editor:
On behalf of Scout BSA Troop 75 in Delmar, we would like to thank the entire local community for its support of our annual fundraiser, Sportsmart, which was held for the 48th time this year. Like with everything in 2020, Sportsmart was much different. The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to change the entire model of Sportsmart, like so many have had to do with their businesses. Instead of our usual consignment sale at Bethlehem High School, between November 14 and 18, we held a “virtual” sale online of all kinds of new and used sporting goods. A “curbside” pick up for those sales was held at the First United Methodist Church in Delmar on Nov. 21.
Despite the challenges in changing the entire model of Sportsmart for this year, and because of the tremendous support we received from the people of this community, the Troop was still able to raise significant funds for its activities. Simutaneously with the Sportsmart sale, we asked the community to make a donation to the Hilltowns Food Pantry, and was able to deliver much need food and supplies to them.
Troop 75 would also like to thank our long-time business partners, whose donations of time, equipment, food and support once again helped make Sportsmart a resounding success: TACS Auto and Cottage Hill Apartments. Further, we thank the Troop’s charter sponsor, the First United Methodist Church.
We hope to see everyone in 2021 for our traditional, in person sale next November!
