Coming soon: A Universe of Stories

This summer, we’re celebrating “A Universe of Stories” library-wide, with Summer Reading programs and prizes for all ages.

Signups begin June 25 at our youth, teen, and adult information desks, or visit our website to create your online logging account, or browse our library calendar to peruse detailed event descriptions.

With prizes and fun for every kind of reader or library user — not just print book readers — you’ll find lots of ways to participate. Learn all about Summer Reading at www.colonielibrary.org

All about audiobooks

Have you ever listened to an audiobook? If yes, you know that having a book read aloud to you by a narrator comes with unique perks.

The voice acting often adds a layer to the storytelling, and can provide great company on long trips in the car.

Of course, we can think of a few more reasons you might enjoy this format. Our favorite? Audiobooks make it possible to read while you do chores, care for children, craft, and exercise. Take that, to-be-read list!

Audiobooks are also a fantastic option if your vision is not what it used to be. Ditch the reading glasses, and dig in.

Finally, if you’ve always felt like reading was a chore, audiobooks might just convert you into an avid reader. Trust the experts on this one — finding the book format perfect for your learning style can make all the difference, and listening to audiobooks most definitely counts as reading.

Interested in giving audio a try? Head to the shelf to the left of our new print book collection to see all our latest audiobook titles on CD, or visit our media collection in the rear left of the building to select from our full collection of CD audiobooks and Playaways, which are preloaded mp3 players.

No CD player? No problem. Get the Libby App — a free reading app for borrowing digital books and audiobooks from our library’s digital OverDrive collection and read or listen on your smartphone, tablet, or Kindle anywhere, anytime. See the last page of our newsletter at www.colonielibrary.org for information on computer classes or set up a one-on-one appointment by calling 810-0314. You can also stop at the information desk and get a handout titled “How to Check Out eBooks & eAudiobooks with the Libby App.”
