The Town of Colonie is attempting to develop an update to its comprehensive plan in 2016 to 2019.
During an April 18, Town Board public hearing on the plan the town supervisor stated that there was dissatisfaction with the public comments that were received by the Colonie Town Board.
The public input to the comprehensive plan is flawed because the survey research that was conducted has a number of critical errors. Two large errors are contained in the survey. The survey is for a town-wide comprehensive plan but two major sections of the town were not allowed to participate in the survey. After the two sections of Colonie were excluded, an error was made by trying to use the survey results across all parts of Colonie. This is clearly a sampling error and a generalization error in terms of the survey research. The erroneous survey results can’t be used by the Town of Colonie in updating the Comprehensive Plan in 2019.
The plan is also flawed because the Town of Colonie conducted a New York state environmental review without making the information available to the interested parties in the proceeding.
The 2019 comprehensive plan draft should be rejected by the Colonie Town Board.
