The election is finally past, and I’m so pleased that we can now redirect our collective energy into tackling real problems with real solutions across Bethlehem.
One of the biggest challenges in the coming year will be working together to update our Comprehensive Plan. Why are we doing this again, when we already created one in 2005? The simple answer is: change.
Bethlehem is growing, and will continue to grow as people are attracted to our wonderful neighborhoods, strong schools, amazing library, vibrant commercial areas, and welcoming town character. This is a great place to live, and people want to live here.
We need to update our Comprehensive Plan so we can guide this growth to ensure it supports and enhances the characteristics that make Bethlehem such an attractive place to be.
As we move through the planning process, I want us to address the serious development challenges facing our town and the effects of this growth on our community’s character, economic vitality, and undeveloped landscapes. But I also want us to highlight all the things we love about Bethlehem, from parks to people, and so much more.
Your participation in this process is vital. Over the next year, we’ll be holding public forums from North Bethlehem to Selkirk and all the hamlets in between. But these won’t be your only opportunities to share your input and insights. You can present ideas at Town Board meetings, drop me an email, and swing by my office.
You, and your ideas and concerns, are always welcome!
David VanLuven,
Bethlehem Town Supervisor
