#LetterToTheEditor #YourVoice #SpotlightNews
My fellow residents of the Town of Colonie — on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. you have a chance to make your voice heard about the proposed town budget for 2019.
As you may or may not know, the budget includes a property tax increase of 7.5 percent, which is almost four times the tax increase allowed under the New York state property tax cap.
This year also represents the fifth straight year Colonie was placed on a list of municipalities in “Fiscal Stress” by state Comptroller Thomas Dinapoli.
This is your chance to make your voice heard by the supervisor and Town Board. As this budget breaks (obliterates) the tax cap, a super majority vote of the Town Board is required for approval.
You may be okay with the tax increases and raises for political appointees included in Paula Mahan’s proposed budget, or you may be opposed, but this is your chance to make your voice heard.
I encourage all Colonie residents to attend this important public hearing.
Sincerely,
Frank A. Mauriello
Minority Leader
Albany County Legislature
