Our second Chinese Film/Discussion series will start on Friday, Jan. 20, at 3 p.m. with “Postmen in the Mountains.” The film tells the story of an old man who served as the postman for rural mountain communities. Retiring, he hands over his job to his son but accompanies him on his first tour. Together, they deliver mail on a 115 kilometer route into the heart of rural China and in the process the son learns from the mail’s recipients more about the father he hardly knew.
Additional films are as follows:
• Feb. 17: “China: The Panda Adventure”
• March 17: “Gifts from Nature
• April 28: “The Story of Staple Foods.”
All four films highlight the diverse scenery of China. The first two are feature films, and the last two are documentaries about food, eating and cooking in China. Each film will be followed by a discussion.
