If you’ve got back pain, you can expect your chiropractor to examine your spine. But your feet?
“When a patient comes in with repeat or chronic pain, I look not only at their spine but at its foundation — the feet — for the cause,” said Dr. Robert Golden of Delmar ChiroThin and Chiropractic Care. “It’s not unusual for foot problems to be a contributing factor in back pain.”
Studies show orthotics can reduce back pain by over 34 percent. They promote optimum posture and help maintain proper spinal alignment after chiropractic treatment.
However, Dr. Golden cautions, over-the-counter orthotics made for the “average” foot generally support only one arch, so they usually offer limited relief at best.
“Each foot is unique,” explains Dr. Golden. “Unlike generics, custom orthotics are made to precisely support your individual feet.”
Dr. Golden has prescribed orthotics to complement his chiropractic care for over 30 years. He recently added a free, 3D-laser self-scanner in his office lobby in Delmar.
“You can come without an appointment, even outside office hours,” he notes. “A touchscreen walks you through the short process, then you’ll get a report by email. Afterward, I offer a no-charge consultation to discuss your results. It’s very easy.”
If you prefer, Dr. Golden can perform the scan in his office, by appointment.
“If the scan and consultation show you’d benefit from orthotics, I can have them made for you by a 65-year-old company I’ve trusted for years,” he says.
Custom orthotics can be made in any size, for dress shoes, comfort shoes, athletic shoes — they even make sandals. Some patients swear their golf shoe orthotics improve their game.
Prescription orthotics may be covered by your insurance, and they’re a qualified expense for FSA/HSA accounts. A good reason to check your feet for the relief you’re looking for.
