Do you remember cosmos flowers? Did you know there are more than three kinds of pepper plants? Are you aware there are at least six varieties of blueberries that can be grown?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you may be as much of a horticultural expert as the staff at Story’s Nursery in Freehold.
Story’s Nursery offers much more than the standard array of trees, shrubs, plants and vegetables that are sold in standard garden centers. They sell species of plants and trees that are difficult to find elsewhere, such as kiwi vines and paw paw.
“What draws people here is the selection,” said owner Rachael Ashley. “They don’t find just three varieties of peppers here. Some of them are old-fashioned types of plants that are not sold in other places anymore.”
Besides the large selection of trees, flowers, vegetables and plants, Story’s Nursery sells goods made by their northern Catskills neighbors, such as locally-sourced maple syrup, honey, seasonal jewelry and more.
“It’s to support our local community,” said Ashley. “They bring their goods to us, and we sell them on consignment.”
Additionally, Story’s Nursery has a gift center for people who have gardeners and artisans in their lives. People can purchase wind chimes, walking sticks, gazing balls and other garden accessories to add character to people’s property.
With so much selection at it’s 35-acre property, Story’s Nursery offers knowledgeable staffers who can help customers navigate the different types of trees and plants to find the right ones for them, as well as offer tips on where to plant them, how much water and sunlight they need, and when to expect them to reach their peak.
Story’s Nursery is located at 4265 Route 67 in Freehold. The nursery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 518-634-7754 or visit www.storysnursery.com.
