ALBANY — A pair of rising seniors are spending the summer working on Corvettes and other high-end cars, thanks to their studies.
Nolan DiLorenzo and Richard Shumway are participating in work-based learning at Verrillo Motor Car Co. in Clifton Park. The dealership is one of more than 300 business, union, and education partners that collaborate with Capital Region BOCES to fuel the regional and state economies. Through these partnerships, students can launch careers directly out of high school or secure jobs that will help them pay for future educational opportunities.
Verrillo officials visited the BOCES campus in March and learned that students were working on a 1967 Corvette in class. DiLorenzo and Shumway spoke with the recruiters and visited the dealership the next day, said BOCES teacher Scott Tessier.
“They are good kids with a strong drive for success,” Tessier said.
DiLorenzo, a Shenendehowa student, appreciates the opportunities the summer work is providing him.
“I like old cars, and I am looking forward to learning and gaining experience. I hope this turns into a regular job,” he said.
Both students attend classes at the BOCES Career and Technical Education Center – Albany Campus.
