Latham man was trespassed for incidents in between
LATHAM – A Latham man really likes Lowes on Loudon Road. So much so that police charged him with seven felony charges for eight separate incidents since July.
Akhtar Muhommed, 54, was finally taken into custody by Colonie police on Thursday, Feb. 6 for the incidents. At sometime during the year, he was trespassed from the store so if he was caught inside the store any theft charges would also include burglary. This was the case in three of the incidents.
The string of incidents started on July 14, when Muhammed allegedly completed a false merchandise return. He then came back and allegedly took merchandise on August 25 and 27, September 19 and 22, October 23, November 17 and December 28.
Muhammed was charged with falsifying business records, three counts of fourth degree grand larceny and three counts of third degree burglary, all felonies, and five counts of petit larceny, all misdemeanors.
He was processed on the arrest warrants and then arraigned by Colonie Town Judge David Green.
DWI on Arthur Road
LATHAM – A 43-year-old Massapequa man was arrested for DWI on Saturday, Feb. 2 by Colonie police.
According to reports, police pulled over a black Chevy Traverse at 2:36 a.m. for multiple traffic violations. When interviewing the driver, officers observed him to have bloodshot and watery eyes and had an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath.
The man was given and failed field sobriety tests and he tested positive for breath alcohol on a pre-screening device. He was taken into custody and later charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and ticketed for following too closely, speeding and failure to stay in a single lane.
The man was released with an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on February 10.
Brass knuckles
WATERVLIET – A Cohoes man was a person of interest for an assault call on Saturday, Feb. 1 near the intersection of 19th Street and Second Avenue.
According to reports, After Sharif Overton, 46, was located and detained, police found a pair of metal knuckles in his jacket pocket.
He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, a felony.
He was arraigned in Colonie Town Court by Judge Ryan Caponera.
Felony DWI
LATHAM – Colonie police stopped a vehicle on Watervliet Shaker Road near the intersection of Feiden Lane on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 1:26 a.m.
According to reports, while interviewing the driver, Shawn Reid, 39, of Green Island, they observed that he appeared to be intoxicated. He was given and failed field sobriety tests and tested positive for breath alcohol on a pre-screening device.
An investigation showed that Reid had a prior conviction for DWI within 10 years. At the police station he provided a breath sample that returned above a .18 percent BAC.
Reid was charged with felony DWI and aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, and ticketed for failure to stay in a single lane and illegal signal while parked.
He was given an appearance ticket for Colonie Town Court on February 19.
Burglary and larceny
LATHAM – Colonie police arrested a Latham woman at Market 32 on Loudon Road on Monday, Feb. 3 for allegedly taking $88 worth of merchandise.
According to reports, Kristine Camadine, 56, was previously trespassed from the store and was charged with burglary, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor. She was arraigned by Colonie Judge David Green.
Grand larceny at Macy’s
COLONIE – Anton Abrams, 43, of Menands, was arrested at Macy’s at Colonie Center on Monday, Feb. 3 for allegedly taking items from the store.
He was charged with grand larceny, a felony. Abrams was arraigned by Colonie Town Judge David Green.
Meth, warrants, fake name
COLONIE – Colonie police responded to an EMS call on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the Albany Airport Inn, formerly the SureStay on Wolf Road and the subject of the call was found to be wanted by multiple agencies.
According to reports, Joseph Malgraph, 34, of Cohoes, also gave police a fake name and had a quantity of methamphetamine on his person.
He was charged with criminal possession of a stimulant, a felony, and false personation, a misdemeanor. Malgraph was arraigned by Colonie Town Judge David Green.
Larceny and identity theft
COLONIE – A 35-year-old New York City man faces charges relating to an incident at Broadview Federal Credit Union on New Karner Road on April 4.
According to reports, David Brito was taken into custody on Wednesday, Feb. 5 and charged with first degree identity theft, fourth degree and third degree grand larceny, all felonies.
Brito was arraigned, but no other details were available.
Pair for stolen U-Haul
LATHAM – Colonie police located a U-haul in the parking lot of Hannaford at Latham Farms on Tuesday, Feb. 4 and found it was stolen from Cohoes.
According to reports, Willam Bott, 35, who is homeless, and Janelle Carrigan, 32, of Estero, Fla., were inside the vehicle and taken into custody.
They were both charged with third degree grand larceny over $3,000. Bott also had an outstanding active arrest warrant from Cohoes.
Both were arraigned in Colonie Town Court by Judge David Green.
