Some shoppers seeking door-buster deals found themselves leaving with more than a bargain after parking their car in the wrong spot.
On Monday, Dec. 2, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple announced results of a one-day handicap parking saturation initiative conducted on “Black Friday,” Nov. 29. There were 48 parking tickets issued countywide to drivers parking illegally in designated handicap parking spaces, which totals nearly $8,000 in fines.
The majority of the tickets were issued by the Albany Police Department with 24. The Colonie Police Department was second with 13 tickets issued. The Albany County Sheriff’s Office and the Guilderland Police Department issued six and five tickets, respectively.
Since the program “Project Access” was implemented in December 1994, there have been 52 one-day enforcement efforts conducted, with more than 2,500 tickets issued totaling nearly $302,000 in fines.
