Guilderland police believe a town resident intentionally burned down three buildings over three months.
Police arrested Matthew C. Woelfersheim, 37, of 1105 Siver Road in Guilderland, on Monday, Oct. 14, and charged him with arson in the third degree, a felony. Three days later, Woelfersheim was charged with two additional counts of arson in the third degree.
The original arrest stems from an abandoned building fire on Sept. 30 at 3400-10 Carman Road, which is across from Greulichs Market. Police said the blaze “totally destroyed” the building.
The additional charges are connected to fires destroying two other buildings, police said. Woelfersheim allegedly set ablaze the Town of Guilderland garage, located at 3424 Carman Road, around 2:45 a.m. on July 8; and the town’s barn, located at 40 Stone Road, at approximately 6:17 a.m. on Oct. 14.
Police said investigation into the incidents is ongoing.
Woelfersheim was arraigned in Guilderland Town Court and committed to the Albany County Correctional Facility. He reappeared in Town Court on Thursday, Oct. 17, for the two additional arson charges.
