After picking up a Delmar man in Albany, an alert taxi driver notified police his passenger had allegedly burglarized a home and retuned to the cab wanting a ride back to the city, according to police.
Guilderland police arrested Frank Richard Markus, 50, of 489 Orchard St. in Delmar, and charged him with burglary in the second degree for allegedly burglarizing the home of a 90-year-old man.
Markus had a taxi driver transport him to a house on Wormer Road in Guilderland on Thursday, Oct. 10, police said. Markus then allegedly entered the home and returned to the cab with a jar of change. Police said the elderly man was at home during the burglary and confronted Markus. Markus did not threaten or injure the homeowner, according to police.
After returning to the cab, Markus allegedly asked the driver for a ride back to Albany, but the driver drove him to the Price Chopper in the Hamilton Square Plaza. Markus allegedly cashed in the change at the supermarket, police said.
The taxi driver called police after dropping off Markus and police detained and arrested him.
Markus was arraigned in Guilderland Town Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility.
