State Police have arrested a Jackson Heights man after police received an anonymous tip that the car he was driving contained illegal drugs.
On Wednesday, July 17, State Police said a car matching the description was observed speeding in the Town of Bethlehem. The anonymous caller had said the vehicle was originally traveling north on I-87, may be transporting a large amount of illegal drugs.
State Police said they stopped the vehicle interviewed the driver. He was identified as Miguel Hemenegildo, 27, from Jackson Heights, NY.
During the investigation, police allegedly discovered a hidden compartment located inside the vehicle which contained approximately 1 kilogram, or 2.2 pounds, of heroin.
Police said Hemenegildo was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, a class A1 felony. He was also charged with speeding, and other vehicle and traffic violations.
Hemenegildo is being held without bail in the Albany County Jail awaiting a felony hearing.
