A 78-year-old woman died in a car crash on Western Avenue and police are asking any witnesses to provide information to the Guilderland Police Department.
Police responded on Friday, July 5, at approximately 2:08 p.m., to a car crash in front of Hamilton Square Plaza. The Westmere Fire Department, Western Turnpike Rescue Squad and Guilderland Paramedics also responded to the scene.
Police said William R. Dollard, 83, of Guilderland, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier and turned into the path of a 2008 Ford Fusion driven by Madolyne Palmer, 79, of Oneonta. Palmer was driving eastbound on Western Avenue in the right hand lane.
Palmer struck Dollard’s vehicle on the passenger side. Then Dollard rotated and struck a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Daniel D. Moore III, 62, of Rensselaer, before crossing Western Avenue and stopping at an embankment.
Dollard’s passenger, Gertrude T. Dollard, suffered “traumatic injuries” and was transported to Albany Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, according to police.
William Dollard and Palmer suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said, and were also transported to Albany Medical Center.
Police said no charges have been filed and alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the Guilderland Police Department at 356-1501.
