A Niskayuna man was arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault this weekend, Colonie police said.
Salam Al Haideri, 24, of 894 Morgan Ave. in Niskayuna, was arrested early Wednesday, June 5, morning following an investigation regarding a sexual assault that occurred on Sunday, June 2, morning. A 19-year-old female came into the Mobil Station at 370 New Karner Road at 2:53 a.m. Sunday, telling the employee she had been attacked along Central Avenue east of the Mobil Station, police said. The woman said she has been in the City of Albany on North Pearl Street near Pine Street and was offered a ride home by two men she didn’t know. Police said during the ride, the men pulled off of Central Avenue and the woman was attacked and sexually assaulted. She suffered injuries including a fractured orbital bone, fractured nose and rib pain, police said, and was transported by Colonie EMS to Albany Medical Center Hospital for treatment. She has since been released.
After an investigation that included assistance from the Albany Police Department, Albany Crime Analysis Center, FBI Albany Office and Niskayuna Police Department, Al Haideri was identified and located. He was arraigned in Colonie Justice Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility to appear for a preliminary hearing in Colonie Court on Monday, June 10.
Al Haideri is charged with predatory sexual assault, rape in the first degree and assault in the second degree.
