A Schenectady woman pled guilty to one count of assault in the second degree on a Colonie police officer before the Honorable Andrew Ceresia in the Supreme Court of Albany Wednesday morning, District Attorney David Soares said.
On March 13, Denita Collier, 19, was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over by a Colonie police officer for a traffic violation. Police said Collier gave a false name and when the officer tried to arrest her for false impersonation, Collier fled on foot. During the chase, Collier bit the officer’s hand, causing the officer to lose control of his baton, police said. Collier grabbed the officer’s baton and repeatedly hit the officer in the head, causing a laceration which required staples and other medical attention, police said.
Collier faces four years in State Prison, followed by one and half years of post-release supervision when sentenced on June 19. The guilty plea is in full satisfaction of a pending case in Colonie Town Court charging Collier with one count of criminal tampering in the third degree.
Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Cheryl Fowler handled the prosecution of the case.
