The FBI has arrested two men who allegedly robbed several banks, including two branches in Guilderland.
Authorities said Zachariah Edwards and Nicholas Ferrone acted together in robbing the Berkshire Bank, located at 2080 Western Avenue in Guilderland, on Jan. 23, and the Trustco Bank, located at 2050 Western Avenue in Guilderland, on Feb. 13.
Edwards, 21, of Frankfort, turned himself in on Friday, March 8, in Utica, and was transported to Syracuse and formally charged with robbing an M&T Bank in Syracuse on Monday, March 4. He allegedly made off with $3,400 in that robbery.
On Monday, March 11, Ferrone, 21, of Utica, surrendered himself to authorities in Syracuse and was formally charges in federal court with robbery. Ferrone allegedly robbed $4,409 from a Chase Bank in Dewitt on Jan. 28.
The duo robbed four other New York banks and one Massachusetts bank, according to authorities.
Both men were ordered held without bail. Detention hearings for both were scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, in Syracuse.
The investigation involved several agencies, including the FBI, New York State Police, Massachusetts’ Chicopee Police Department, the Guilderland Police Department, the Schenectady Police Department, the Dewitt Police Department, the Oneida Police Department and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
