A 34-year-old man was sentenced in an Albany County Court on Tuesday, Feb. 5, to up to five years for drunk driving.
Decillius Blakenship was serving a five-year probation term for DWI convictions in both Albany and Schenectady Counties when he was driving on Wolf Road in Colonie on Nov. 24, 2012, and smashed into the back of another vehicle, propelling the car into oncoming traffic. The driver in the other car received minor injuries.
Blackenship had taken his girlfriend’s rental car without her permission. When officers interviewed him, they detected a strong odor of alcohol, and Blackenship refused to consent to a breathalyzer test.
On Jan. 2, Blackenship pled guilty to one count of driving while intoxicated, a Class D felony. The sentence was handed down by Judge Joseph Teresi.
