The Niskayuna Police Department and State Police are investigating the death of a man who was originally reported missing.
Michael T. Wallender, a 62-year-old Niskayuna resident, was reported missing on Friday, Jan. 25, and his body was located in a wooded area near River and Rosendale roads the following afternoon, according to police.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Wallender’s death and are awaiting a full autopsy report to determine the cause of death, which police haven’t classified.
Wallender, a lifelong Niskayuna resident, was an attorney in Albany for more than 35 years and was most recently a partner with Couch White, LLP. He was also general counsel for the New York State Association of Realtors and other real estate agent organizations.
“Mike was the most loyal friend you could ever ask for. He charmed us all with his keen wit, sharp mind, and profound dedication. He was a caring and giving man who always put others’ happiness before his own,” his family said in his obituary.
Wallender is predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Joyce, his brother, David, and his parents. He is survived by his daughter, son and brother.
Services were held Saturday, Feb. 2, at St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady.
