The Colonie Police Department has started an investigation after a man allegedly left his one-year-old child in a freezing car for eight hours, police said.
On Thursday, Jan. 24, Colonie police received a call from a man saying he left his child in his vehicle during his workday at 210 Morris Road. The child was dressed for the cold weather and in his car seat for eight hours, police said. The father had failed to drop off the child at day care but only became aware of his error when his wife called him asking about the child, police said. The father called 911 for an ambulance and police responded, as well.
The high temperature in Colonie on Thursday was only 14 degrees.
Police said the child was treated at the scene by Colonie EMS and was conscious and alert before being transported to Albany Medical Center. The child was released later that evening.
Child Protective Services and the Albany County District Attorney’s Office are assisting the Colonie Police in the investigation. No charges have been filed.
