A 19-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in State Prison after pleading guilty to four counts of rape, District Attorney David Soares announced on Tuesday, Jan. 15.
From December 2011 to May 2012, Scott Lansing, of Colonie, engaged in sexual conduct with four victims under the age of 15 throughout various Colonie locations. On Dec. 6, 2012, Lansing pled guilty to four counts of rape in the second degree, all Class D violent felonies. He was sentenced on Tuesday, Jan. 15, before the Honorable Joseph Teresi in Albany County Court.
Lansing was sentenced to 20 years in State Prison with 10 years of Post-Release Supervision. He will be required to register as a sex offender upon release from State Prison.
“In an age where information can be transmitted over the computer in the blink of an eye, it is critical for parents to monitor their child’s Internet activities, especially with regards to social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram,” Soares said in a statement. “Although these sites provide young adults with the ability to contact and connect with their friends and family, these sites can be used in the commission of a crime. It is important for parents to speak with their children about social media and the dangers of meeting with a stranger in person.”
