State police on Thursday, May 31, at approximately 10:39 p.m., stopped a vehicle for speeding, allegedly traveling 97 mph in a 65 mph speed limit, which led to a Leandra’s Law arrest of a Schenectady man.
Police said after stopping the vehicle, the driver, 29-year-old Raul Cruz, was found to have allegedly used marijuana. Field testing determined that he was impaired, according to police.
Cruz was arrested, and he was charged with driving while ability impaired while having a 6-year-old passenger in the vehicle.
The child was turned over to the mother, who was a passenger in the car.
Cruz was arraigned before the Town of Athens Court and remanded to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail. He was scheduled to reappear on Tuesday, June 5.
