Update: The Guilderland Police Department has released a statement saying the incident was investigated at the man was in fact a salesman `peddling educational books and software published by a company in Nashville. Although the man still is not associated with GCSD, police say he is not a threat to the community. Guilderland police thanked residents and the school district for being vigilant and no charges were filed.
Officials from the Guilderland Central School District are warning residents that a man claiming to be a representative of the district has been allegedly visiting homes claiming to be conducting a survey on its behalf.
Guilderland Central officials are saying the man has no connection with the district and he is not to be believed. The district says a `concerned community member` notified them about the man. The district was told the man, who introduced himself as Steve, was going door-to-door asking homeowners about how many children were currently living in the household.
`Please be advised that this individual is not a representative of the school district and that GCSD is not conducting any such survey. If you are approached by this individual, be suspicious,` said the district in a statement.
The man was said to be driving a white Mitsubishi.
According to the district, the Guilderland Police Department has been notified of the situation. Community members are asked to please let them know if this individual has stopped by their home by calling (518) 356-1501.
