Colonie police made a swift arrest in a Tuesday, May 1, bank robbery.
Brian D. Sweeney, 36, of 1579 Central Ave. Room 220 was arrested and charged with robbery in the third degree, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor, for allegedly robbing Citizen’s Bank in Northway Mall on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
At 1:44 p.m. on Tuesday, Colonie police were called to the Citizen’s Bank at 1440 Central Ave. for a reported robbery, according to police. There were no customers in the bank when Sweeney entered the bank and handed the teller a note announcing a robbery, said police. Sweeney was given $500 and he then fled on foot, said police.
Responding officers, Colonie police K-9 unit and a New York State Police helicopter began searching for Sweeney and at 3:08 p.m., an officer observed Sweeney exiting the woods at the southwestern corner of the intersection of Central Avenue and Wolf Road and took him into custody, recovering $400 of the stolen money, said police.
