A 20-year-old man was arrested on DWI charges after police found his car crashed into a guide rail on Interstate 787 in the City of Watervliet on Sunday, April 29, according to State Police.
Troopers responded to a report of a one vehicle accident into a guide rail around 5:10 a.m. on Sunday and after a brief investigation it was determined that the driver of the vehicle, Eduardo Ortiz, did not have a vlid driver’s license and was intoxicated, said police. There were two male passengers, age 23 and 15, also in the vehicle, said police.
Ortiz was taken to the Loudonville barracks and it was determined he had taken the car from a family friend without permission, said police. Ortiz was charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, DWI, Leandra’s Law and several traffic violations.
The 15-year-old was released to his mother at the scene and the 23-year-old was given a courtesy transport, said police.
Ortiz was remanded to Albany County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
