A Watervliet man who lead State Police on a high speed chase on New Year’s Day was convicted of felony DWI on Tuesday, March 6, according to information from Albany County District Attorney David Soares’ office.
Adam Strong, 32, pleaded guilty to DWI, a felony, and faces 1 1/3 to 4 years in state prison in addition to a $2,000 fine and $520 court fee when sentenced in April, according to information from Soares’ office.
Around 2 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2012, State Police clocked a vehicle going 80 miles per hour on 787 in Menands and when officers pursued the vehicle, the driver fled and exited the highway, according to information from Soares’ office. Strong reached speeds up to 90 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone and drove through two red lights before turning on to 1st Street in Albany, abandoning the vehicle and hiding underneath bushes where he was later found, according to information from Soares’ office.
Strong has previous DWI convictions and in addition to license revocation, an Interlock Ignition Device will be mandated for three years upon his release from prison, according to Soares’ office.
